There are rivers that flow, when we listen to our bodies, our roots envelope our bodies, the pouring rain becomes sweat in our palms. Then why do we consider our lives apart from the earth or water?
This collective work questions our bonds with the world and attempts to discover the potentials of the material.

from Mamut Art Project;

“Ekin Kula, Hazel Kılınç and Pınar Köksal’s collective project derives its name from Carl Sagan’s famous book, and starts with a question: ‘We have rivers coursing through our body when we listen to it; our roots take hold of our bodies; the rain turns into sweat in our palms; why, then, do we live our lives away from the earth and water?’
Kılınç, Kula and Köksal’s black-and-white photographs cluster around questions of where life ends, what its sources are, and where it restarts, building on the idea that everything in life ends in decomposition, but then goes back to the beginning of life. Inspired by North American experimental filmmaker Stan Brakhage, the three artists take their lead from the random forms that films which touch the earth or water take, questioning their connections to the earth while also exploring new possibilities of known materials.”
